My Journey From Musician to artist Mentor
The year was 2016, and I was living in Australia. I met a fellow musician and we started making music together. We quickly formed a strong bond, both as friends and as artists.
Before long, we were playing gigs and writing songs of our own. One day, Grant found an opportunity online to audition for a label called Strawberry Sound.
We went for it and they loved us. They told us they wanted to sign us, to record our music and share it with the world.
For me, that was everything I’d ever dreamed of. I’d spent years imagining what it would feel like to finally “make it.” But when we got to the studio, things started to unravel. The recording went badly, promises faded, and before long, the deal fell apart.
Later, I found out the whole thing was a scam, and that if we had gone any further, we might have ended up in real trouble.

That moment changed me.
I realised how vulnerable artists can be when chasing their dreams and I vowed to never be coerced like that again, and to help others avoid the same trap.
In 2018, I made my dream come true on my own terms. I became a full-time musician, playing six to seven gigs a week.
Once, I even did three three-hour shows in a single day - St. Patrick’s Day, 2019. It was exhausting, but it proved that hard work, planning and consistency could turn passion into a career.
Eventually, I stepped away from the covers scene and started producing.
I moved into making music for TV and advertising - corporate music. It wasn’t the most fulfilling chapter, but it kept me learning and creating, and it allowed me to live through music.
Then I met Sophie-Maude - a talented young singer who was looking for direction. We started writing, producing and releasing songs together.
One of her singles, Take Me Away, reached number one in New Zealand. We received funding, collaborated with other artists, and built her brand to the point where she’s now on the verge of breaking internationally.
None of that happened by chance. Behind the creative work was a structure - a process I’d refined over years of trial, error, and coaching experience.
It was this system that became the foundation for Artist Ascension. A framework that helps musicians find clarity, confidence and direction so they can build real, sustainable careers doing what they love.

I had an incredible session with Ash and I’m truly grateful I connected with him. He was thoughtful, inquisitive and deeply supportive as I opened up about my fears around social anxiety and stepping out of my comfort zone in a new place (Puerto Rico). His insights were on point, his guidance practical and his energy, both caring and professional. I left the session with real action steps and a sense of clarity and encouragement. Ash is someone I’d absolutely work with again for ongoing growth and support. Highly recommend him to anyone seeking meaningful personal progress.

Working with Ash has been a really positive experience for me. One thing I appreciated right away was how understanding and non-judgmental he was. He has this calm demeanour about him and that makes you feel like you can completely honest with yourself.
In our sessions, Ash didn’t just talk at me; he gave me space to speak and reflect, which is something I hadn’t experienced in other services.
Before we started, I struggled with self-control, especially getting off devices and starting new projects. Since working together, I’ve become more mindful and accountable, especially when it comes to making (or avoiding making) decisions.
If you're thinking of working with Ash, I’d say go in with an open mind. He's going to help you see stuff about yourself that is hiding in plain site.
